Subject: 1996/97 Fee Waiver Information/IPEDS Finance Survey

The Chancellor's Office Accounting Department prepares the finance survey portion of the annual Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) report on behalf of most campuses. In addition to reporting the amount of all tuition and fees assessed, we are instructed to include the amount of any fee waivers. For fiscal year 1996/97, the data used to prepare the survey is extracted from the Chancellor's Office consolidated database which does not include fee waiver information.

The integrity of the data included in the IPEDS report is significant as it is used to produce various federal and state reports and publications. IPEDS data is also used as a research tool by private and public organizations.

In an effort to improve upon the accuracy of the IPEDS report, we need each campus to provide us with the amount of their FY 96/97 fee waivers. For our reporting requirements, please categorize the fee waiver by: (1) the CSU fund name and (2) the functional area in which the benefit was incurred.
