Student Academic Support

When the number of applications received during the initial filing period from fully qualified applicants exceeds the number of available spaces, a CSU campus may be granted the ability to use a policy of impaction either for undergraduate degree programs or for undergraduate students applying from outside the local admission area. The impaction designation permits the campus to use supplemental admission criteria to screen applications. Campuses without the impaction designation at either the program or campus level are open to all CSU eligible applicants.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM IMPACTION--For 2015-16, all undergraduate programs, pre-programs, and undeclared/undecided programs are impacted for the following campuses: CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, San Diego State University, San Jose State University, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

To search for a specific program at a CSU campus, scroll down to the online impaction database search after entering the campus name.

CAMPUS IMPACTION or LEVEL IMPACTION means that a campus has reached its enrollment capacity in terms of instructional resources and physical support and cannot accommodate all the eligible undergraduate applications it receives during the initial filing period. In these instances, the campus has established a local admission area for first-time freshmen and/or upper-division transfer students.

In general, applications received from students from outside the designated local area would be held to higher admission requirements than those received from students inside the local area. To learn more about campus impaction, select the campus and applicant level below.
