Student Success Stories
California State University Fresno
My name is Claudia Garcia. I graduated Fall 2012 with a major in Biology, and two minors: Spanish and Mathematics. Both of my parents were born in Mexico and at a young age immigrated to this country. Growing up my family and I moved a lot in search of a better paying job for my father. We eventually moved to Dinuba, a rural farm-working community, where my family currently resides. Although neither of my parents had the opportunity of going to school, they made sure to instill in us the importance of a higher education and I am very thankful for that. Recently, I was accepted to the Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies (GEMS) program in Washington, D.C. and am very excited to begin this journey. In the future I see myself as a family practice physician and role model for youth in my community.
