Grades in Repeated Courses

All CSU campuses will honor the grading policy at the college where the repeat of courses was taken. For CSU Channel Islands, only the most recent attempt will be used for unit and grade calculations. Listed below are additional campus policies and rules of exemption.

Campus Rules and Exemptions
Bakersfield Will honor the grading policy if noted on the transcript or posted on the college website, otherwise grades are averaged.
Channel Islands If a CI course is repeated at another institution (second attempt) then the campus will calculate both attempts into the cumulative grade point average (GPA).
Chico If the college forgives the first attempt and it is so noted on the official transcript, the forgiveness will be honored. If the first attempt is not forgiven, the campus will calculate both attempts into the cumulative GPA.
Dominguez Hills All grades are averaged into the grade point average unless discounted on the transcript. If there is no notation on the transcript, and the grade on the first attempt was less than “C,” the grades will be averaged. If there is no notation on the transcript and the grade on the first attempt was “C” or better, the second attempt will not be included in the grade point average.
East Bay Grading policy will be honored if noted on the transcript or posted on college website. If there is no notation of forgiveness, the grades will be averaged for GPA purposes. 
Fresno Grading policy will be honored if noted on the transcript or posted on college website.
Fullerton Will honor the transcript for repeat notations. Where there is no adjustment and a course is equivalent, the campus will accept the higher grade and adjust for the repeat action.
Humboldt Will discount grades if course repeated.
Long Beach Will average grades unless the first attempt is forgiven and it is so noted on the official transcripts.
Los Angeles Grading policy will be honored if noted on the transcript. If the college at which the course was repeated did not forgive the first attempt, the campus will calculate both attempts into the cumulative grade point average. However, repeats of a “D” grade will be granted units earned once only.
CSU Maritime Academy For admission GPA calculation, will accept only the highest grade if courses are equivalent. Once that student matriculates, both courses are calculated in the GPA and unit totals.
Monterey Bay Grading policy will be honored if noted on the transcript or posted on college website.
Northridge Where there is no adjustment and a course is equivalent, the campus will accept the higher grade and adjust for repeat action. 
Pomona If the college forgives the first attempt and it is noted on the official transcript, the forgiveness will be honored. If the college at which the course was repeated did not forgive the first attempt, the campus will calculate both attempts into the cumulative grade point average.
Sacramento Will honor each subsequent colleges’ repeat policy for all repeats beyond the first attempt.
San Bernardino Grading policy will be honored if noted on the transcript or posted on the college website.
San Diego Will honor the grading policy as noted on the official transcript from the college where the course was taken. If there is no notation on the transcript, and the grade on the first attempt was less than “C,” the grades will be averaged. If there is no notation on the transcript and the grade on the first attempt was “C” or better, the second attempt will not be included in the grade point average.
San Francisco If there is notation forgiving the previous attempt, the forgiveness will be honored. If there is no notation of forgiveness, grades will be averaged for GPA purposes. Highest grades of all repeated attempts will used to fulfill area A and B4.
San José Will honor the grading policy as noted on the official transcript from the college where the course was taken. If there is no notation on the transcript, and the grade on the first attempt was less than “C,” the grades will be averaged. If there is no notation on the transcript and the grade on the first attempt was “C” or better, the second attempt will not be included in the grade point average.
San Luis Obispo If the college forgives the first attempt and it is noted on the official transcript, the forgiveness will be honored. If the college at which the course was repeated did not forgive the first attempt, the campus will calculate both attempts into the cumulative grade point average.
San Marcos Will honor the grading policy if noted on the transcript or posted on the college website, otherwise the grades are averaged.
Sonoma Grading policy will be honored if noted on the transcript or posted on the college website.
Stanislaus Grading policy will be honored if noted on the transcript or posted on the college website.
