
Women Triumph in London

After a 2012 Summer Games already coined the “women’s Olympics,” seven CSU Olympians returned from London with medals—and all of them are women.
The 2012 Summer Olympics had many firsts for women. There were more female athletes in the Games than at any other in history, and it was the first time women participated on every national team. On Team USA, women outnumbered men—and won 29 of America’s 46 gold medals.
The games also took place during a year that marks the 40th anniversary of the passage of Title IX. The provisions of the 1972 law forever changed the face of intercollegiate athletics, as well as attitudes toward women in competitive sports. The equal playing field initiated by Title IX has served as solid footing for the success of female athletes.
There is no better proof than the bronze, silver and gold—which have inspired a generation of young women. Congratulations to the CSU’s Olympic medalists:
