Focused on the Future

Oct. 5, 2012

In a news conference Thursday, CSU leaders including Chancellor Reed said White has the skills and experience necessary to lead the largest four-year public higher education system in the country.

“I am pleased the board selected a candidate who understands the CSU’s mission,” Reed said. “He has a solid passion, interest and understanding of this role.”

White said he felt humbled, honored and grateful by the selection, and was prepared to lead the CSU.

“The CSU is so important to the quality of life in California," he said. "It transformed me and my family, and this is a chance for me to give back to this great state at a higher level.”

White says he is optimistic about the CSU’s future, despite challenging economic times.

“I look forward to working side by side with University of California and California Community College leaders as we find new opportunities, take on challenges, and advocate for the future of California’s public higher education,” White said. "Working together is the way in which we find solutions."

CSU Board Chair Bob Linscheid praised White's experience and background, which he said reflects the institutional values and mission of the CSU.

"Tim's demonstrated leadership and commitment to student success are the right combination for the university's future," Linscheid said.
