Statement from California State University Chancellor Charles B. Reed
“The California State University strongly appreciates Gov. Schwarzenegger’s unwavering support for the California State University and rejects the false statements that protesters are saying about the governor.
“Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed adding more than $200 million to the CSU’s budget for the coming year, which will be the first increase in our budget in three years. With the funds, we will be able to enroll an additional 10,000 new students beginning in Fall 2005, and for the first time in three years, give our employees a pay increase. The CSU is one of the few parts of state government to receive an increase in funding, and the governor has been adamant that the increases remain in the budget.
“While student fees have increased because of the state’s budget crisis over the past three years, CSU fees are still among the lowest in the entire country – about $3,000 per year for a high quality education that would cost much more in most other states.
The California State University could not find a better supporter than Gov. Schwarzenegger when it comes to higher education funding.”
