CSU Names Assembly Member Rudy Bermúdez Legislator of the Year
(February 18, 2004) -- Assembly member Rudy Bermúdez (D-Norwalk) has been selected as Legislator of the Year by the California State University system. Bermúdez will receive the award on Monday, March 22, 2004, during the CSU’s annual Legislative Day luncheon at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel.
The CSU’s students, alumni, Board of Trustees, Chancellor, and the 23 campus presidents will honor Bermúdez for his work in support of higher education as a member of the Budget Committee during the 2003 legislative session.
“Assembly Member Bermúdez truly deserves recognition as CSU Legislator of the Year,” said CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed. “He has fought hard for education funding and to improve student access to the California State University."
“I appreciate being honored by the California State University as Legislator of the Year,” said Assembly Member Bermúdez. “I will continue looking for solutions to maintain student access to higher education. More educated residents mean greater productivity, higher tax revenues, and in the long term, less reliance on government financial support.”
The CSU Alumni Legislative Day, held every spring, is a key opportunity for the CSU's 23 campuses to come together in Sacramento and collectively advocate for the CSU, the state leader in high-quality, accessible, student-focused higher education.
During the day, participants, including CSU alumni leaders, campus representatives, donors and community members visit legislators to discuss the critical role the CSU has in maintaining California’s economic prosperity.
Also receiving the award along with Assembly Member Bermúdez is Assembly Member Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto).
