CSU Reaches Tentative Agreement with Staff Union

"I am very pleased that we have reached agreement on a three-year contract that provides many important benefits for our employees and their families," said Jackie McClain, the CSU's vice chancellor for human resources. "We look forward to continuing to work together in Sacramento and elsewhere on our shared priorities throughout this difficult budget year."

Some of the major economic terms of the new agreement, reached on April 18, follow. (A fuller summary can be found here.)

• A 1.5% general salary increase effective on July 1, 2002.
• A $10,000 life insurance policy for all benefit eligible employees.
• Fee Waiver for dependents of CSEA bargaining unit employees, effective August 1, 2002.
• Employee participation in the CSU Pre-Tax Parking Fee Deduction Plan.
• Employee participation in the CSU Health Care Reimbursement (HCRA) Plan.
• An increase from 32 to 40 hours in the maximum amount of any catastrophic leave donations.
• An increase in funeral leave to 5 days, regardless of funeral travel requirements.
• An increase in maternity/paternity leave to 30 days, which must be used with 60 days of arrival of the child.

The agreement is a three-year agreement with salary and benefits re-openers in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The new contract language is posted on the CSU web site at Tentative Agreements.

The agreement must be ratified by CSEA members as well as being approved by the CSU Board of Trustees.
