North County Times 5/8/07

Karen Haynes, president of Cal State San Marcos since 2004, will receive a prestigious award Friday in downtown San Diego for positive contributions to the university and the local community.

Haynes will receive the Tribute to Women & Industry award from the YWCA, which stands for You, Women, Children, All of Us. The award will be presented at the local YWCA chapter's 28th annual luncheon at the San Diego Convention Center.

Under the leadership of Haynes, university enrollment has grown to nearly 9,000 students and the school has forged partnerships with school districts, businesses and Indian tribes.

Haynes said she is proud to be recognized at a time when enrollment at the university is growing rapidly and several new buildings are under construction.

"This is an exciting time for Cal State San Marcos as we continue to lead initiatives and partnerships to meet community needs," said Haynes.

In addition to serving on several higher education panels, Haynes is on the board of directors of the San Diego North Economic Development Corporation.
