Tribe, CSU San Marcos make pact on education

Santa Ysabel tribal Chairman Johnny Hernandez and CSU San Marcos President Karen Haynes are scheduled to sign a four-page memorandum of understanding today at a 5 p.m. ceremony on the North County reservation.
Under the three-year agreement, the university and the 900-member tribe pledge to undertake specific steps and programs to promote higher education on the reservation.
A university official said the school is pursuing similar agreements with other tribes.
