New leader is named at CSUDH

Boice M. Bowman, vice president for student affairs at Cal State Dominguez Hills, on Tuesday was named interim president of the institution, effective March 1, while a search is conducted for a permanent campus leader.

Bowman will fill in for retiring CSUDH president James E. Lyons Sr., who has been appointed Secretary of Higher Education for the state of Maryland.

The presidential search committee over the next several months will review applications and conduct interviews with semi-finalists.

The California State University Board of Trustees hopes to name the new president in May.

A committee of CSU trustees will conduct the search in conjunction with an advisory committee.

Lyons, who announced his retirement plans last November, has led the campus since 1999.
