Letter: Budget hits CSU students harder

Mercury News 1/17/07

I concur with everything Jan Frydendahl wrote (Letters, Jan. 14) regarding Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's anti-education tax proposals. But I was puzzled by the phrase, ``He wants to raise student fees for some university students by 7 percent.'' The 7 percent increase applies to all University of California students, whereas all 400,000 California State University students will see an even larger 10 percent increase. With this increase, students of this ``other'' four-year public university system -- who are least able to afford it -- will have seen their fees rise 96 percent since 2002. California's promise of high-quality, affordable and accessible public higher education continues to be eroded.
