CSU faculty end protests on pay, work conditions

Union-Tribune 2/9/07

Informational picketing by faculty on 23 California State University campuses concluded this week with protests in Long Beach, Northridge, the Channel Islands and San Francisco.

Picketing took place at California State University San Marcos on Jan. 22, and at San Diego State University on Jan. 30.

The union representing 23,000 faculty members statewide is threatening strikes over pay and working conditions. Administrators have proposed a roughly 24 percent salary increase over four years, but the California Faculty Association says the actual increase is closer to 15 percent, in part because some raises are contingent on state funding that may never materialize.

Contract negotiations began in April 2005.
