Yee bill would require open meetings on UC, CSU pay
San Francisco Chronicle 2/8/07
Yee's legislation, SB190, follows reports about hidden pay and undisclosed perks awarded to executives at UC and CSU -- at the same time tuition and other costs for students were skyrocketing.
Most state and local bodies are required to discuss compensation proposals in public session under California open meetings laws.
The state Education Code makes an exception for the university boards, allowing them to consider executive compensation in closed session -- something critics complained about after the pay controversy.
