Letter: SDSU expansion plan on the right course
Union-Tribune 2/26/07
San Diego State University plays an important role in our region, providing an affordable higher education to thousands of qualified students each year. Many of these students come from the surrounding community, and for them, SDSU is the preferred, affordable choice that is in close proximity to attend. Your recent article on the expansion plan (“SDSU begins new course to expansion,” Our Region, Feb. 12) stated there were 57,600 applications for only 9,000 spots this past year, which means that over 48,000 students were unable to attend SDSU.
It is imperative that SDSU expand to meet the growing demand for higher education, and I believe that moving forward with the expansion plan is a step in the right direction. I appreciate the many efforts the university is making to accommodate the needs of the community while providing higher education to the growing number of students that are eager to attend this world-class university.
