Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed four new members to the California Community College Board of Governors, including two from the Sacramento region.
Katherine Albiani, an Elk Grove Democrat who is president of the Los Rios Community College District Board of Trustees, was named to the 17-member board last week, along with Lance Izumi, a Sacramento Republican who is a senior fellow at the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy, a free-market advocacy group.

Schwarzenegger also appointed Benita Haley, a former community college teacher, counselor and administrator who lives in Manhattan Beach. She is a Republican. Pauline Larwood, a former member of the Kern County Board of Supervisors, a Republican and a professor at Bakersfield College, also was chosen for the panel.

The board of governors sets policy and gives guidance to the state's 109 community colleges, which are governed by locally elected boards. The appointees must be confirmed by the Senate. Members get $100 per diem.
