UCD apologizes for mistaken e-mail
By Lesli A. Maxwell

DAVIS - University of California, Davis, officials apologized on Friday for mistakenly sending invitations for their summer advising program to 90 community college students who had previously been denied admission.

The e-mail notice was meant only for students who had been accepted for the 2004-2005 academic year, said Yvonne Marsh, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs.

Campus officials in April had notified the 90 community college students that they would not be admitted this fall. They were sent the e-mail Wednesday inviting them to summer advising for new students.

Marsh said a computer programming error caused the mistake.

It's the second time in two months that UC Davis' electronic admissions notification system has prompted apologies from campus officials. In March, 6,000 admitted freshman received erroneous e-mails that they had won a prestigious scholarship.
