Chico Enterprise-Record 3-30-04 Zingg leaves campus in ambulance due to kidney stones |
|
Chico State University President Paul J. Zingg was taken from his office by ambulance Monday morning, suffering from severe abdominal pain. Just after 10 a.m., Zingg's staff notified the University Police Department that the president was in distress. The campus police relayed the request for medical aid to the Chico Fire Department and an ambulance was summoned. Zingg came in Monday complaining of stomach pain, according to Joe Wills, the university's director of public affairs. As the morning continued, the pain became steadily more severe. Firefighters and paramedics came to Zingg's office in Kendall Hall, the campus administration building, and interviewed the president. Wills said it was eventually decided the president should go to the hospital. While a gurney had been rolled into his office, Zingg chose to walk to the ambulance under his own power. He was taken to Enloe Medical Center, where he was diagnosed as suffering from kidney stones. After receiving medication for the pain, Zingg was discharged from the hospital and Dennis Graham, university vice president for business and finance, gave the president a lift back to his home. Wills said Zingg had been told to go home and rest. Because of the medical problem, Zingg had to cancel a speech he was to give to a luncheon meeting in Redding. Wills said Zingg is scheduled to leave today for a meeting in Washington,
D.C., but as of press time the president had not decided whether he would
be able to go. |
