Letters to the Editor: Research at CSU

Editor -- Regarding your news article, "Debate on growth of research at CSU campuses" (Feb. 23): The Legislature has to come to grips with the changing times.

Want it or not, in the face of student fee increases and limits on student admissions, the mission of the California State University system is changing. It can no longer claim to be "giving every qualified Californian a chance at higher education."

Perhaps it is time for the Legislature to revisit CSU's mission and include research as a serious part of that mission -- because faculty research only enriches higher education teaching.
