Los Angeles Times 1-23-04 State Alcohol Official to Check on Party Scene |
|
The boozy Friday night party scene in Isla Vista is getting close scrutiny by the head of the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. ABC Director Jerry Jolly will stroll through the Del Playa Drive area and hear from local officials who blame the party-hearty problem on open-door bashes featuring free keg beer. Jolly's tour guides will be representatives from UC Santa Barbara, anti-alcohol abuse advocates and sheriff's deputies who hope to win a $100,000 ABC grant to attack what they call "the keg problem." They would use the money to try a new method of tracking keg buyers in Isla Vista so they could be held responsible, Isla Vista Foot Patrol Lt. Tom McKinney said. |
