Chronicle of Higher Education 1-19-04 Bush Reportedly Plans to Announce $120-Million Program for Job Training at Community Colleges |
|
| Washington In his State of the Union address, President Bush plans to announce a $120-million program for community colleges to train American workers, the Associated Press reported on Sunday. The program will reportedly be administered by the Labor Department, rather than the Education Department, and will focus on high-demand occupations, such as health care. Mr. Bush will outline the plan in his speech to Congress on Tuesday night and give more details on Wednesday in an appearance at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio. The White House declined to comment on the report. "We'll let the
president make his speech on Tuesday," Taylor Gross, a White House
spokesman, told the AP. |
