Chico Enterprise-Record 2-6-04 Kegs, cash seized at party during alcohol sting operation |
|
| An undercover operation Saturday night by the Chico Police Department's Alcoholic Beverage Control Unit resulted in the break-up of a large party at 616 West First Ave. and two citations for serving alcohol to a minor. Police used minor decoys to infiltrate the party, which had generated several complaints about noise and traffic problems. The party included a live band and grew to an estimated 350 people. Officers seized two kegs of beer at the celebration and confiscated $341 in cash the proceeds of a cover charge to get into the party. Ironically, one of those cited at the party was a person who had come to Chico to help organize a Social Accountability Program initiated to hold people accountable for their actions during special events like Halloween and St. Patrick's Day. The person, who was not identified, was cited for public intoxication and ordered to return to Chico to perform community service.
Action may be taken against one business found to be violating the conditions of an alcohol sales license Saturday. ABC officers stayed in the west side and downtown areas until 3 a.m. Sunday, helping to break up fights and get patrons out of a Main Street bar so the business could close. The enforcement effort was paid for by a California State University
grant intended to address alcohol issues in and around state universities. |
