Daily Bulletin 2-27-04 Professor tapped for planning commission |
|
|
A Cal State San Bernardino professor was appointed Thursday to the county planning commission. Audrey Mathews, an associate professor of public administration, was tapped by Clifford Young, the county's newly appointed fifth district supervisor. In a statement released Thursday, Young - who until his appointment earlier this month was a Cal State San Bernardino administrator - called Mathews someone with "knowledge and expertise gained from years of experience as both a public administrator and as a researcher in the field of public administration." Young also said that Mathews will share his vision of local planning that emphasizes job creation and planned growth. The county planning commission consists of five members, one appointed from each of the county's five supervisors. Planning commissioners serve four-year terms or until the supervisor who appointed them leaves office. Young, who was appointed as a placeholder replacement for former Supervisor Jerry Eaves until a permanent replacement is elected, will serve until December. Mathews, who earned a doctorate from the University of Southern California, is a well known researcher whose work has centered on issues of community development and housing with a particular focus on minority communities. She has long been active with organizations that promote the economic advancement of women and blacks. |
