San Francisco Chronicle 2-26-04 Letters to the Editor: CSU cutbacks |
|
|
Editor -- Regarding "University subsidies net state little," by Jill Stewart (Feb. 24): Stewart is guilty of a shortsighted view of a complex issue. She blames the CSU for not providing exemplary education, while ignoring the painful and plentiful cutbacks the CSU has suffered over the past 12 years. So the answer, she suggests, is more cutbacks? Additional budget cuts will equal fewer teachers, fewer classes offered and fewer students able to complete their education in a timely way. I fear further cuts will be crippling to the CSU and will undermine the need for a strong public educational system for California. BARBARA McENTEE, lecturer
