Letters to the Editor: Propositions will help RB schools

Our community can be proud of the achievement of our students and our schools. This long history of success will be threatened by a severe lack of funding come Tuesday if Propositions 55, 57 and 58 do not pass.

The passage of Propositions 55, 57 and 58 are critical to the continuation of high-quality instruction in the Redondo Unified School District. With the passage of Proposition E, the people of Redondo Beach have begun to enjoy the modernization of three schools, the current modernization of two more and the anticipation of modernizing the final six. The completion of the plans for the final six will be in jeopardy if Proposition 55 does not pass.

California, with the passage of these bonds, would provide matching funds to complete these schools with approximately $25 million (34 percent of the total amount). Without these dollars, the plans we currently have will have to be scaled back considerably.

Propositions 57 and 58, the Economic Recovery Bond Act and the Balanced Budget Act, are also important to Redondo students as well as to all students in California. California schools have already endured several billion dollars in budget cuts in the past two years. The passage of both propositions would allow school districts to protect those valuable educational programs and services that target student achievement. Without these additional dollars, very deep cuts will have to be made in the Redondo school district's budget.

Do not shortchange our children's futures. Vote "Yes" on Propositions 55, 57 and 58.
