San Diego Union-Tribune 2-19-04 SDSU, others sued by strength coach |
|
| Another lawsuit has been filed stemming from the California State University auditor's investigation into improprieties in the San Diego State equipment room. Strength and conditioning coach David Ohton filed suit Friday in Superior Court alleging negligence against the school. The suit names former interim Athletic Director Gene Bartow, head football coach Tom Craft, defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer, Football Operations Director Dave Powroznik, the Cal State University system, Human Resources Director Sue Blair and SDSU Vice President Sally Roush. Ohton, who did not return a phone message left at his home last night, was the author of a lengthy memo that was key to the auditor's findings. The memo detailed alleged NCAA violations and was critical of many in the athletic department, including Craft. Ohton's duties were changed in August, when he was removed by Bartow from working with the football team and his hours were subsequently altered. Former equipment manager Steve Bartel, who lost his job as a result of the investigation but just had his employment reinstated, has a defamation suit pending against numerous defendants. |
