Daily Bulletin 2-13-04 Gas line ruptures at Cal Poly, students and staff evacuated |
|
| A student-housing building at Cal Poly Pomona was evacuated after a gas line ruptured on campus late Thursday morning, a Los Angeles County Fire official said. A witness called Los Angeles County Fire dispatch at 11:22 a.m. to report that a two-inch gas main had ruptured. According to information from Cal Poly Pomona, the leak occurred after a construction crew accidentally broke the line. The gas line was located near the entrance to the campus, said John Mancha with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The rupture caused fire officials, university police, the university's parking services and other staff to evacuate between 20 and 25 students from seven buildings. Firefighters had the break under control by 1:25 p.m., Mancha said. Los Angeles County Fire sent three engines, one truck, one squad and
a battalion chief to the scene. There were no injuries reported. |
