Stanford University's board of trustees has approved a 4.5 percent increase in undergraduate tuition for next fall, pushing the cost of education there from the current $28,564 a year to $29,847. The overall cost of an education with room and board also will rise 4.5 percent to $39,347, with the cost of standard room going up 6.2 percent from $4,726 to $5,012 and standard board increasing 3.2 percent from $4,347 to $4, 488. Undergraduate tuition, room and board were raised by 4.8 percent last year. Trustees on Tuesday also increased costs for graduate students, pushing tuition for the engineering school to $31,834 a year, the law school to $33, 870, the medical school to $36,315 and the business school to $37,998.
