Two out-of-state college administrators have been named as finalists for the presidency of San Jose State University.

The candidates are Paul Yu, president of State University of New York at Brockport, and Richard Jarvis, outgoing chancellor of the seven-campus Oregon State University system. They will visit the campus next week to meet with faculty, staff, students and the community.

The men are vying to replace Robert Caret, who resigned as SJSU president last year to become president of Towson University in Maryland. They are the second group of finalists to be named for the top job. In November, California State University trustees started the execu-tive search afresh after deciding three finalists were not well-suited to the campus.

Yu has been president at Brockport since 1997 and has also held administrative posts at Butler University in Indianapolis and Central Michigan University. He was a Fulbright lecturer in philosophy at National Taiwan University.

Jarvis has been chancellor of the Oregon system since 2002, although he has announced he is resigning from that job, effective June 30. Jarvis was previously chancellor of the online U.S. Open University and the University and Community College System of Nevada.

After they visit the campus, they will be interviewed April 19 by CSU trustees. A final decision is expected soon thereafter.
