Portland Business Journal 4-7-04 San Jose State eyes ex-Oregon chancellor |
|
| Richard Jarvis, who resigned as chancellor of the Oregon University System on March 31, is among two finalists to be the next president of San Jose State University, the California State University said Tuesday. Jarvis, who has been chancellor of the Oregon University System since 2002, announced his departure amid a reorganization and downsizing of the chancellor's office that included cutting $1 million and as many as 38 positions. The State Board of Higher Education named former Oregon Department of Administrative Services Director Jon Yunker interim chief operating officer and executive vice chancellor. Recruitment of a new OUS chancellor will not begin until the restructuring of the chancellor's office has been finalized, which is expected to take place during the next six months. Before coming to Oregon, Jarvis was chancellor of the United States Open University, and chancellor of the University & Community College System of Nevada. He also worked in the State University of New York System. The new president at San Jose State will succeed former President Bob Caret who assumed the presidency of Towson University in Maryland in summer 2003. Joseph Crowley, president emeritus of the University of Nevada, Reno, has been serving as interim president. He was not a candidate for the permanent position. The other finalist is Paul Yu, president of the State University of New York College at Brockport. |
