San Bernardino Sun 4-30-04 Cal State ready for summer schedule |
|
| SAN BERNARDINO - Beginning June 14, Cal State San Bernardino will switch to its summer schedule. The university will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and be closed Fridays until Sept. 10. The limited schedule will help the university reduce its energy consumption and save money. This is the fourth consecutive year the campus will operate under a shortened workweek during the summer. In previous years, the university has trimmed its electric use by an average of more than 15 percent and reduced the use of natural gas by an average nearly 35 percent, saving more than $24,000 in energy costs each summer, said David DeMauro, the university's vice president for finance and administration. This year DeMauro estimates the university will save about $55,000. The university is also encouraging energy conservation such as turning
off lights in unused rooms, reducing lighting in hallways and turning
off computers that are not in use. |
