Sacramento Bee 4-27-04 Editorial: College transit |
|
|
Students at California State University, Sacramento, haven't paid when they get on Regional Transit buses or light rail since 1991, the year RT and the university struck a deal. Students pay a small surcharge with their registration fee. In exchange, Regional Transit gives students a transit pass and a big fare break. Now RT and the Los Rios Community College District have worked out a similar deal. Students will be asked to approve a $15 per semester transportation fee. If the majority approves, all students will be eligible for the Universal Transit Pass for $15 a semester - a $285 savings. The transportation fee vote will take place at all four Los Rios campuses
today and Wednesday. Measure U saves money for students, reduces congestion,
boosts transit ridership and improves air quality. It deserves a resounding
Yes. |
