Eureka Times-Standard 4-13-04 HSU to reveal draft of Diversity Action Plan |
|
| ARCATA -- Humboldt State University will be unveiling the draft of its Diversity Action Plan on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the University Center Quad. The unveiling of the plan comes on the heels of the university's first forum on race and diversity, which was held on Friday. Similar forums will be held in the future. In development for the past two years, the plan incorporates a variety of actions HSU can take to create a more racially and ethnically diverse campus. It also looks at the number of women in the sciences. Compiled by staff, students, faculty and administrators, the draft was written under the direction of HSU President Rollin Richmond. It will set forth specific steps charting HSU's path to leadership in diversity. The plan is based on years of research that identified areas of concern and sets forth actions to offset shortcomings in campus diversity. It will outline a set of strategies designed to increase the number of people of color on campus. "The university also hopes to take a more vigorous lead in creating
truly inclusive, welcoming and vibrant communities along the North Coast,"
said Helen Jones, HSU's director of Diversity and Compliance Services. |
