CAL POLY - Housing officials unveiled the new 804-bed Cerro Vista apartments Wednesday. Located in the northeast corner of campus, the upscale student dormitory is the first student housing the university has built since 1974. Cerro Vista features fully-furnished apartments, each with four single-bed rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, storage space and views of campus and hillsides. Apartments range in size from 939 to 1,000 square feet. The nearly $50 million project took slightly more than two years to build. Students will begin moving in Sunday. Housing officials said they gave priority to returning students who already lived on campus during the last school year. Monthly rent is $575 and includes all utilities -- even basic cable and high-speed Internet connections. New tenants will also receive weekly assistance from campus custodians to clean their bathrooms. The new complex will add a net increase of 600 students to the total living on campus, since about 200 were either tripling up in other dorm rooms or living off campus at the Days Inn over the past two years.
