CSULB's Maxson has award hat trick
By Ian Hanigan

Fighting Bob has accomplished a three-peat.
For the third straight year, Cal State Long Beach President Bob Maxson has been named "University President of the Year' by a group that represents about 400,000 students in the California State University system.

Maxson, who began his tenure as CSULB's chief in 1994, was honored Tuesday by the California State Student Association and presented with a glass plaque during a reception at the CSU Chancellor's Office.

CSSA chair Artemio Pimentel said Maxson has demonstrated a commitment to understanding the needs and concerns of students not only from Long Beach, but from the CSU's 22 other campuses as well.

"Every campus wishes they had a president like Bob Maxson,' Pimentel said. "He's really about the issues of shared governance.'

Maxson has now taken the award three times in its five- year existence. This year he beat out several other nominees, including Manuel Esteban of Chico and Marvalene Hughes of Stanislaus, Pimentel said.

The CSSA is acknowledged by the CSU as the body that represents the collective interests of its students.
