SSU lands $20K for redevelopment

Sonoma State University's goal of establishing an extension campus in the Roseland neighborhood of southwest Santa Rosa cleared another fund-raising hurdle with the award of $20,000 in redevelopment funds from the city.

The Santa Rosa Redevelopment Agency on Monday unanimously approved the matching grant to SSU business professor Robert Colman and fellow collaborators who are spearheading the drive to build the $10 million, 10-acre campus. Colman sought and received $20,000 each in matching funds from the city and Sonoma County as part of an application to the federal government for $240,000.

If awarded, the federal grant would fund a feasibility study into the project, which backers say would create 300 new jobs. The nine-month study would determine the site and scope of the new campus, which is envisioned as a small-business incubator for the region.
