Eureka Times-Standard 8-5-03 HSU lecturer eyes bid at governor's seat |
|
| EUREKA -- A Humboldt State University lecturer may be joining the crowded field of candidates running for governor. Darin Price, an HSU chemistry lecturer, hasn't officially filed yet. But a county elections official said that Price stopped in the office Monday and picked up the necessary papers, such as petition forms and affidavits to register. Price needs to pay $3,500 and garner 65 signatures from registered voters by Saturday, the state deadline. The county elections official said that Price indicated he may be able to avoid paying the fee by getting additional signatures. Gov. Gray Davis, embattled over the state's economy and fiscal woes, faces a recall election in October. Already more than 200 people around the state have entered the race. Price would be the first Humboldt County resident to enter the race. Attempts to reach Price for comment Monday were unsuccessful.
