UC clerk faces embezzlement charges
By Lesli A. Maxwell

WOODLAND -- A UC Davis accounting clerk will be in Yolo Superior Court today to face formal charges of identity theft, embezzlement and grand theft, campus police said.

Linda Serna, who processed travel credit card payments for the University of California, Davis, was arrested by campus police last month following a two-month investigation.

Police said she had embezzled "several thousands of dollars," but did not disclose the exact amount.

Campus officials said Serna is on paid leave until she can be terminated.

Investigators said Serna used the identities of three former UC Davis employees to apply for credit cards for the school. She used the cards for cash advances and falsified accounting records so that card balances were paid with university funds, they said.
