Chico Enterprise-Record 8-9-03 Chico State prof named to board of trustees |
|
| A veteran professor at Chico State University has been named to the California State University board of trustees. Kathy Kaiser, a professor of sociology since 1972, was appointed to the board Friday by Gov. Gray Davis. Kaiser will serve as the faculty member of the panel which is the governing body for the 23-campus system that includes Chico State. Members of the board are not paid for their service. The professor, who earned her doctoral degree at Duke University, is currently director of applied sociology at Chico State, and she is chair of the university's General Education Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the Chico State and systemwide academic senates. Kaiser has been elected to the statewide post four times. At the same time the governor's office announced Kaiser's appointment, it also reported that Dan Weinstein, of Los Angeles, managing partner of Wetherly Capital Group, was named as a trustee. According to information on the sociology department Web site, "Kaiser specializes in sociology of sexuality, deviant behavior, sports, and applied sociology. She has been very active in mentoring students who earn honors in the major, participate in student paper competitions, and has nominated students for scholarships and academic recognition at the university and national levels." There are 25 members to the CSU Board of Trustees and the panel meets six times a year, most commonly at the CSU Headquarters in Long Beach. Kaiser will be replacing Harold Goldwhite, the former faculty representative to the board. Goldwhite is a chemistry professor at Cal State Los Angeles. Weinstein's nomination to the Board of Trustees will have to be confirmed by the state Senate, but Kaiser's appointment as faculty representative does not require Senate approval.
