Silicon Graphics Gives $300,000 Grant For San Josť State University's Animation Program

San Josť State University has received a three-year development grant of $300,000 from Silicon Graphics, Inc., for its nationally recognized animation program in the School of Art and Design. The partnership with SGI will support the digital component of the animation program, which includes a donation of equipment and furniture to develop an animation lab. The lab is expected to open this fall.

SJSU will develop program linkages for students from Mt. Pleasant High School in San Josť, and create a pipeline for students from De Anza College's animation program. This coordinated curriculum in animation will enable local students to begin learning the basic principles of animation at the high school level. As a result, these students will have a working knowledge of the necessary skills and the means to obtain highly competitive positions in the animation industry.

"We are pleased that SGI is partnering with SJSU in our endeavor to deliver distinctive education and training to our students," said Robert L. Caret, president of San Josť State University. "This support enhances our integrated program where local youth can secure an affordable, quality education without leaving our community."
