San Josť State University Names Dean Of College Of Humanities And The Arts

Acting Dean Carmen Sigler has been appointed dean of the College of Humanities and the Arts at San Josť State University, following a national search. She has served in an acting capacity in that position since August 1998.

A faculty member since 1987 in the Department of Foreign Languages, Sigler was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award by the California Language Teachers in 1992. Her scholarly work includes a book on Quevedo, a foremost writer of the Spanish Renaissance, that was published by a leading university press in the Spanish-speaking world. Sigler has an extensive leadership record in the campus Academic Senate and has served on many university committees.

Prior to SJSU, Sigler was a lecturer at Stanford University. She holds a doctorate in romance languages and literature from the University of Michigan.

The College of Humanities and the Arts includes 15 academic departments, schools and programs, as well as the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies and the Martha Heasley Cox Center for Steinbeck Studies.
