California State University Presidents, Provosts, and Deans of Business from 18 different campuses met with the Board of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) to discuss community service-learning opportunities at the CSU. Service-learning links students' courses with community service activities. In attendance were CEOs and executives from Wal-Mart, Coca Cola, E&J Gallo Winery, Rexall Sundown, Proctor & Gamble, Bic Corp., Xerox, Coors Brewing Co., Radio Shack/Tandy Corp., Kinkos, KPMG Foundation, Alberto Culver, Fuji Film, Heinz, Newell Rubbermaid, Remington, Kelloggs, Day Runner, Country Home Bakers, and DDB Needham Advertising. The event included:
SIFE's mission is for college students to make a difference by completing community service projects that teach the principles of business and economics. Eight CSU campuses - Bakersfield, Chico, Fresno, Hayward, Monterey Bay, San Bernardino, San Diego, and San Luis Obispo already have SIFE chapters. In addition, SIFE also announced the national "Teach a Child About Business Week," which encourages SIFE teams to develop for children in grades K-9 projects that further their comprehension of the free enterprise system.
