CSUCI Offers Two New Programs

CSUCI Launches MBA Program

California State University Channel Islands will launch an MBA program-the first of its kind offered by a comprehensive, four-year public university in Ventura County-in the fall semester of 2004.

The MBA program has been specifically designed for working professionals in Southern California, featuring evening classes delivered in 12-week modules rather than the standard two semesters.

Using an innovative and integrative approach to management education, the program meets the new learning standards required for accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. CSUCI's MBA will develop business leaders capable of working in an increasingly global environment.

"Ultimately, the goal of the program is to make a difference in the lives of students and contribute to the economic vitality of the region," says Ashish Vaidya, CSUCI professor of economics and MBA program director.

Another distinctive feature of the MBA program is its founding Business Advisory Council, comprised of leading businesspeople throughout the county who will serve as a major resource for the program and its students.

CSUCI Master's Program to Answer Area's Need for Educational Leaders

A new master's of education program created to meet the increasing demand for highly qualified school principals and other educational leaders will be launched this summer by California State University Channel Islands.

The CSUCI Principals Leadership Program is designed for working professionals who have a valid teaching or related service credential and three years of teaching experience. Those who complete the program become eligible for the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential required for principals and administrators in California public schools.

The program, which begins in the mid-June summer session, can be completed in one year or four sessions, according to Joan Karp, professor of special education and education program chair.

The Principal Leadership Program emphasizes a hands-on, cohort model in which students remain as a group throughout the program. Mentored by practicing principals, students participate in action-oriented master's projects at local schools. They gain real-life experiences in the critical and challenging issues facing educational leaders today.
