State L.A. Dean Selected as President-Elect of Technology Board
California State University, Los Angeles’ Dean of Educational
Support Services Ethan Lipton (Venice resident) was recently announced
as the new president-elect on the Board of Directors for the International
Technology Education Association (ITEA). Lipton will begin his term
as president-elect at the ITEA Annual Conference in Albuquerque, NM,
March 18-20, 2004.
Lipton has been active in ITEA as a nominations committee member, conference
presenter, conference delegate, and member of the Technology for All
Americans Phase III Standards Project Team. He is the recipient of the
2002 Epsilon Pi Tau Distinguished Service Citation, and is an ITEA Distinguished
Technology Educator.
At Cal State L.A., Lipton provides leadership in the implementation
of the Office of Educational Support Services in support of academic
activities across University units. He leads in faculty development,
assessment, and instructional assistance through the Center for Effective
Teaching and Learning (CETL), and works with the College deans coordinating
faculty development and training support for technologically-assisted
learning thorough the Faculty Instructional Technology Support Center
(FITSC). Additionally, Lipton manages all instructional technology consultants
within Academic Affairs, oversees the Open Access Labs, and provides
leadership for technology-assisted learning initiatives and technologically-mediated
course development. Lipton also serves as the liaison to the Baseline
Committee, the Technology Infrastructure Initiative project, and the
Executive Secretary of Academic Information Resources Committee.
A professor in the Department of Technology, Lipton has served for the
last seven years as the associate dean of the College of Engineering,
Computer Science, and Technology at Cal State L.A. In that role, he
was responsible for long and short range planning, the implementation
of the College’s goals, objectives, and policies as related to
curriculum and academic technology, and provided active leadership in
college assessment and accreditation initiatives.
The International Technology Education Association is the largest professional
educational association, principal voice, and information clearinghouse
devoted to enhancing technology education through experiences in K-12
schools. Its membership encompasses individuals and institutions throughout
the world with the primary membership in North America. The mission
of the ITEA is to advance technological capabilities for all people
and to nurture and promote the professionalism of those engaged in these
pursuits.
