State Announces Earliest-Ever Deadlines for Fall Applications
Undergrads must apply by Feb. 1; graduate and post-baccalaureate
students by March 1.
Tremendous growth in popularity coupled with enrollment caps and state
budget cuts have prompted California State University, Fresno officials
to set the earliest-ever deadlines for admission applications for the
fall 2004 semester.
Officials are urging prospective students to pay close attention to
deadlines and submit their applications as early as possible.
The application deadline for first-time freshmen and transfer students
is Feb. 1, 2004.
The application deadline for graduate/post-baccalaureate students is
March 1, 2004.
The early deadlines are part of Fresno State’s continuing efforts
to meet enrollment targets established by the California State University
Chancellor’s Office.
Fresno State implemented restrictions in the fall 2003 semester to manage
enrollment growth, but still had a record 22,361 students, which exceeded
the enrollment target by about 3 percent.
Bernie Vinovrski, associate vice president for enrollment services at
Fresno State, said the earlier enrollment deadline will allow the university
to not accept applications from students who cannot be accommodated
and should result in more timely processing of files and earlier notification
to those students who do apply by the deadline. He recommends that students
get their forms filed as soon as possible.
Vinovrski said that while the increase in applications and enrollment
bring challenges to the university during difficult budget times, the
continued high interest in Fresno State is encouraging. “We’re
pleased that students from throughout the region – and beyond
– regard Fresno State as an excellent choice for their college
education,” he said.
Vinovrski said the university is committed to providing a quality education
to students regardless of the budget crisis. Maintaining enrollment
targets is one of many ways to ensure academic quality, he said.
