Video by Cal State L.A. Broadcasting Student Receives First Prize
in International Competition
The National Association of Television Program Executives' (NATPE) Educational
Foundation recently announced Cal State L.A. broadcasting major Katy Boggio
(Highland Park resident) as the first-place winner of its 2003 Student Video &
Film Production Awards.
Boggio's winning entry, "CSULA Promo," was selected from 151 entries - the largest
pool in the history of the contest. Submissions came from 88 schools in 34 U.S.
states as well as from Canada and Australia.
For a quarter century, the NATPE Educational Foundation's Student Video &
Film Awards have recognized excellence in the production of video and film
projects by college or university undergraduates worldwide. Entries were judged
based on concept, execution and creativity. All productions were required to
feature original footage related to the applicant's university.
NATPE will award Boggio a $3,000 cash prize along with a matching cash award to
Cal State L.A.'s Department of Communication Studies. Her video is a two-minute
mock infomercial highlighting the "positives" of life at Cal State L.A. Boggio
produced her winning entry as part of an independent study project in the spring of
2003.
In February of this year, Boggio's work received top honor in the Broadcast
Education Association Festival of Film, Video, and Media Arts. Last summer,
she placed first in the TV-Short Form category at the 12th Annual CSU Film and
Video Festival at CSU Channel Islands. Currently a teaching assistant in the
department of Communication Studies, Boggio is the recipient of a 2003 WIF
(Women in Film) Crystal Scholarship Award.
The NATPE Educational Foundation, in conjunction with its Student Video
& Film Production Awards, promotes educational activities on behalf of the
foundation. Offering a wide array of seminars, grants, workshops, meetings,
instructional videotapes and conferences every year, the foundation continues
to reach out to NATPE members and the global academic community. NATPE is a
global, non-profit television association dedicated to expanding business
opportunities for its members through conferences and other year-round
activities focused on the creation and distribution of all forms of
television programming.
