Training Center at CSU Channel Islands Awarded
Grant $150,00 will fund Child Abuse Training and Technical Assistance
Center
A state grant for more than $150,000 will enable California State University
Channel Islands to implement the Child Abuse Training and Technical
Assistance Center (CATTA) that will serve the 10 counties in Southern
California.
The center trains professionals who work in child-abuse prevention,
intervention, and treatment and works closely with child-abuse prevention
councils and multidisciplinary interview teams to address family violence
issues.
"Cal State Channel Islands is delighted because this grant gives
us the opportunity to create more links between our campus and the communities
we serve," said Barbara Thorpe, Associate Vice President for Academic
Affairs-Academic Programs. "We believe it is an important part
of the mission of our university to address real-world issues such as
child abuse."
The $151,000 grant was awarded by the Governor's Office of Criminal
Justice Planning and represents the first year of multi-year funding.
The CATTA center at CSU Channel Islands is in partnership with Sonoma
State University, which provides similar services for the 48 Northern
California counties.
Family violence is one of the most critical public health issues of
our time," says Diane Nissen, the Center's Director. "Ensuring
that women and children are safe in their own homes is an important
aspect of homeland security."
