Fresno State Offers Web-based Registration for
Fall Semester
For the first time, California State University, Fresno students can
quickly and easily register using the Web for their fall 2002 classes.
A new Web-based registration system was introduced at 8 a.m. Monday,
July 8, and is drawing substantial interest from new and returning students,
said Bernie Vinovrski, assistant vice president for enrollment services.
In fact, the first student to access the system did so 36 seconds after
it was up and running.
“Our Web-based registration offers students an alternative to
the Student Telephone Assisted Registration (STAR) system used for many
years,” Vinovrski said. “Now, whether they are at home or
on vacation anywhere in the world, students can simply go online to
check the schedule of courses, their financial aid status and their
other campus financial accounts, and then sign up for classes in about
10 minutes.”
Vinovrski estimates that 40 percent of the 21,000 students expected
to enroll this fall will choose Web-based registration. The STAR registration
system remains available for students who wish to register via the telephone.
Fall registration will continue through July 31.
Fresno State is the first California State University campus to offer
Web-based registration via the PeopleSoft Release 8.0 system.
Fresno State is one of three CSU pilot campuses implementing the PeopleSoft
Student Administration software this year. All 23 CSU campuses will
be “live” on the full suite of PeopleSoft human resources,
financial and student administration software by 2006.
Fresno State students gain access to the PeopleSoft system and a variety
of other Web-based services and information via the “My Fresno
State” portal, a new self-service function on the World Wide Web
at http://my.csufresno.edu.
My Fresno State provides students, faculty and staff a personal home
page, through which they also can access their campus e-mail accounts
and view Fresno State news and announcements. They can customize their
personal home pages with weather or stock reports and tools like a dictionary
and thesaurus.
“This is an important new tool that provides our students, faculty
and staff the unprecedented access to key campus information and useful
administrative services through their Web browser and connection to
the Internet,” said John Briar, interim director of Campus Information
Systems. “We will continue to expand these offerings via My Fresno
State in coming months.”
