Cal State L.A. Alumna Is Writer And Director Of Telly
Award-Winning Public Service Announcement
The Get Tech Kids PSA, written and directed by Cal State L.A. alumna
Laura Loftsgaarden (Communication Studies), recently earned two Telly
Awards in the commercials division in the categories of "Jingle
for TV" and "Children's Audience." Awarded two silver
Telly statuettes, the public service announcement made its national
debut in Washington, DC. Designed to engage young people in engineering
and technology, it was shot on the Cal State L.A. campus and featured
the Solar Eagle III, the University's award-winning student-built solar
car. In a letter, Loftsgaarden expressed her gratitude "to the
incredibly patient and gifted Communication Studies faculty, from whom
I learned everything!"
The Telly Awards was founded in 1980, to showcase and give recognition
to outstanding non-network and cable commercials. The competition was
expanded several years ago to include film and video productions. Over
the past 22 years, the Telly Awards has become a well-known, highly
respected national competition.
